THE SEASON OF ADVENT
Advent is the beginning of the Western liturgical year. It starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, the Sunday between November 27th and December 3rd. The length of the season of Advent varies every year, but there are always 4 Sundays included.
The word "Advent" comes from the Latin word "Adventus" (arrival, coming) and means literally: the coming of God. The season of Advent is a preparation on Christmas. It calls us to look forward to the coming of the Lord.
